If you are looking to level up your painting skill If you are looking to level up your painting skills, try these three things:

1. Mix all your paints first! Mix a ton of paint in lots of different values and chromas so you have choices to pull from. Use a palette knife, not a brush and invest some time in mixing.

2. Use a limited color palette. A good exercise is three colors plus white. This will add color harmony to your painting and force you to get better at values.

3. Look more! Spend time looking at your reference and at your painting. Make good decisions. Slow down and think before putting paint on the canvas. Get the color, value, and shape right the first time.

Happy painting!
My drawing titled “Infant King” is really special My drawing titled “Infant King” is really special to me because of my deep love for Jesus Christ and my personal commitment to try to live by His teachings.

I love the process of drawing this way because it is slow and methodical and provides plenty of thinking time. This experience prepared my heart for Christmas last year. And for that reason, I will always love this drawing!
